Synopsis:
The call of adventure always seems to hang up whenever Randelgast Jones tries to answer it, leaving him facing the dull future of working in his family’s successful potion shop. But when a powerful artefact is stolen from his parents and puts them under a terrible curse, Ran finally gets the quest he’s been after his whole life. He and his siblings set off to find the missing artefact – and its trail leads them from their homeland of Primaterra to the very strange realm of…Earth.
Story:
This first issue is a fantastic start to what seems to be a very interesting story. I’ll admit I’m not always a fan of the whole “two-worlds colliding” aspect of storytelling, especially when it’s a fantasy-like world meeting the modern world, but this story has the potential to change my mind, as it feels almost like The NeverEnding Story, with our Earth having stories of Primaterra, but then Primaterra comes to our Earth, much like Falcor winds up in the real world at the end of The NeverEnding Story film.
So far the characters seem interesting, as the twins bounce off one another perfectly, with Ran being the less optimistic but still very important protagonist, who has an unrealised destiny thrust upon him, meaning the adventure is just about to begin, and we’ll no doubt see his character transform as the story
continues.

Art:
The art is fantastic in this book, with some great colours that really bring an atmosphere to the world that is being portrayed. The town of Blossing (as seen below) has various shades of reds and sandy colours that make it feel more like a middle-eastern bazarr rather than the usual grey stone blocks of European medieval times, that a lot of magical lands are drawn as. The town comes alive in the art with various characters seen throughout the panels. Some wield swords, others wear rags whilst some wear fine hats and armour. It’s a diverse setting that really comes alive through each panel and page.

Conclusion:
This is a book for the fantasy fans, I am delighted to see more and more sword & sorcery type stories coming into the comic book world because the fantasy genre is growing ever more popular and there are some fantastic stories to be told. I personally cannot wait to read more in this series.
