DC FanDome – The Suicide Squad Film

Task Force X, more commonly known as the Suicide Squad, are a group of villains forced to complete top secret missions for the government. Some of the task force members you may have heard of, such as Harley Quinn and Deadshot, who were featured in 2016’s live action film adaptation Suicide Squad, written and directed by David Ayer. However, this film was met with less than positive reviews, with the only exceptions to the film being the casting choices. The DC fans fell hard when Margot Robbie stole the show as Harley Quinn, and she seems to be the only one from that film who has been able to continue reprising her role in various other films such as Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn, as well as reprising her role for the upcoming 2021 film, The Suicide Squad, written and directed by James Gunn this time.

Now I know that some of you are thinking “but what about some of the others who are reprising their roles from the 2016 Suicide Squad film?”. Don’t worry, I could not possibly forget Jai Courtney’s excellent performance as George “Digger” Harkness, a.k.a Captain Boomerang! He was one of the cast members that were so well received that he is reprising his role and the fans are super excited to see him again. Other than Jai Courtney though, we have Joel Kinnaman returning as Rick Flag and the exceptional Viola Davis returning for her chilling performance as Amanda Waller.

However, you guys wanted to know more about the new cast, and my oh my what an roster we have for both casting and characters that are included in this new upcoming film, that will be absolutely bonkers.

The Suicide Squad panel was one of the largest group panels of the night, and gave us a fun look at chemistry that these wonderful human beings have together on screen. Dead centre of it all was the man himself, James Gunn, who is known for making one of the least known Marvel teams a household name with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and from the looks of things he’s aiming to do the same thing with the new roster of Task Force X.

Fans first got a glimpse at a fun little “Who’s Who?” video which shows us all of the cast and who they are playing in the movie. Check it out below:

This roll call video is just the tip of the iceberg however, because later on we got a behind the scenes trailer of sorts and this film looks like it’s going to be truly insane. The cast includes Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, John Cena, Michael Rooker, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Idris Elba, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Nathan Fillion, Storm Reid, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Joaquin Cosio, Juan Diego Botto, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng AND MORE!

Seriously, what a line up. With a cast like that you’d be either really excited or really nervous, because with a cast that big you want to make sure they all get a decent time in the spotlight, and it seems from the BTS trailer that they just might. A word of warning from the director and cast themselves though…don’t get attached.

I never actually thought I’d live to see the likes of Polka Dot Man being portrayed in live action but the casting of David Dastmalchian seems perfect for it!

The Suicide Squad will be heading for release in 2021, and I actually think it is going to quickly become a fan favourite film amongst the DC Fans, because the cast, crew and director know that these characters are out of place from your regular films and even TV Shows, so they have no doubt created a film that is breathtakingly hilarious and action packed to help you forget your issues with these lesser known characters.
