Since the news that Zack Snyder had to step back from working on 2017’s Justice League after the success of his Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition fans were instead given a completely new experience with Joss Whedon’s version of the film, and though I enjoyed it for what we got, I knew that what we could have had was something new entirely. So, shortly after it’s release, rumours began to spread of a legendary version of the film known simply, as the Snyder Cut, and a worldwide social media movement began that showed the studios the love and passion that we fans have for our films and the directors we believe in.
In 2019, Zack Snyder confirmed online that he did indeed have enough footage for his own original cut of the film, stating that it was up to Warner Bros. to release it. Just over a year later in May 2020, it was officially announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League was going to be released to the world in 2021 through the streaming service HBO Max, with plans to release it through other means shortly afterwards.

Roll on August 22nd and DC FanDome arrives with much anticipation from fans that we might get a better look at this legendary Snyder Cut, after Snyder himself had spent much of his social media time releasing images from the film that gave us glimpses of never before seen footage, including first glimpses of the highly anticipated first ever appearance of a live action Darkseid on film!
During the panel, Zack answered questions from fans, joined by the cast of the Justice League to ask them (with the exception of Jason Momoa who did not appear at DC FanDome at all this year), and it was great to see enthusiasm for the film back, not just from the fans but from the cast as well, specifically Ben Affleck who received much unnecessary backlash for his portrayal of Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by the backlash of Whedon’s Justice League, this lead to Ben Affleck stepping away from the role, despite having started a solo Batman film which would have included Deathstroke, portrayed by Joe Manganiello, who appeared at the end of Justice League as a tease to set up the possible future of this DC Cinematic Universe. However, it was not to be it seems, but with the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there is hope. We get to see Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill back where they belong as Batman and Superman fighting alongside their allies Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash as they take on the new Gods!

Zack treated us to a teaser trailer for the new cut of the film, which already feels like a new film all together, and afterwards, he assured us that this is nothing like what we have already seen. There is more Cyborg footage which adds to the heart of the film, more Flash footage that gives a better insight into the character and adds some new elements to the film that weren’t used in Whedon’s version, and of course the long awaited ‘Black Suit’ Superman. Of course not forgetting the new villain Darkseid, as well as a new look for the films previously seen villain, Steppenwolf.

So, after that trailer I think it’s safe to say the DC Fans are excited to see this new version of the film after fighting for it for so long. We get a glimpse at some new characters, new footage of scenes we never knew existed, and overall a sense of something completely worth while.
Better yet, Snyder himself revealed that the film will be released on HBO Max as four 1 hour long segments, with a plan to release a full 4 hour long complete edition film afterwards, which will be an absolute treat to sit through!
