The first video game to be revealed by Warner Bros. at DC FanDome was one I think we were all expecting to be connecting to the popular Arkham series of games that have been gracing our consoles since 2009, when Batman: Arkham Asylum changed the way we played superhero games, by giving us a true to comics Batman experience.
After the explosive ending to 2015’s Arkham Knight, there was one thing that fans had been crying out for, to be included in the next Batman game. The Court of Owls are a huge and very popular piece of Batman history since writer Scott Snyder first introduced them in Batman #2 of the New 52 series. Since then, they have become a fan favourite villain for Batman, which continued into the Rebirth era where the Court expanded internationally into The Parliament of Owls!
However, one thing we may not have guessed, is that the new Arkham style game does not include Batman as a playable character. Watch the trailer below and then read on for more information.
So…Batman is dead, leaving Gotham without it’s true hero. The criminals grow restless and realise that without the Batman, there’s no one around to stop them, but the didn’t count on Batman having backup.
Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson are the only one’s who can get the job done, and save Gotham in Batman’s stead. The Bat-Family comes together in this Single Player and Co-operative gaming experience that allows you to switch between four members of the Bat-Family.

Barbara Gordon was a surprising character as despite our love for Bat Girl, her roles in most media nowadays takes place after her little run in with the Joker who caused her to become paralysed from the waist down, which lead to her second alter-ego as Oracle. However, this is not a complaint, as the inclusion of Bat Girl means we will get the female perspective on tackling Gotham’s crime, and we can look damn good doing it.
Speaking of Barbara, besides the trailer, fans around the globe were also treated to some actual game play footage, showing us Bat Girl in action against one of Batman’s more popular rogues gallery villains, Mr. Freeze.
This universe was confirmed to be separate from the Arkham games however, which meant that this isn’t going to relate to any of the previous events that we’ve played through as the Bat. Which is interesting because this certainly has a similar style, but the annoying part about that is that the trailer reveals the one thing the fans have wanted in the Arkham universe for quite some time.
Either way though, this game looks like a lot of fun, and with the addition of co-operative multiplayer, we can enjoy our favourite team ups of the Bat-Family!
Gotham Knights will be released in 2021 for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
