Kevin Smith Confirms Clerks 3 is back with a new Script!

Today is a good day for Kevin Smith fans around the world! Kevin Smith recently posted this picture on Instagram, with one of his famously long paragraphs about what this photo means.

You can read his post below:

It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga. It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of #newjersey.

Clerks 3 has been a project that Kevin Smith has been trying to get off the ground for a while, and after multiple attempts to get it from script to screen, he has had zero luck in doing so…..until now.

One of the main factors that held back the project, was the fact that Jeff Anderson would not return to reprise his role as Randall, and Smith had stated that without Anderson, the film could not go ahead. However, it seems that those issues are a thing of the past, as Smith has recently met with Jeff Anderson, and come to an agreement for him to reprise his role of Randall, along with Brian O’Halloran returning to his role as Dante.

Before his heart attack last year (2018), Smith had already failed to get Clerks 3 going, and attempted to even create a sequel to his 1995 film Mallrats, in the form of a television show that would have been called ‘Mallbrats‘, but sadly the series fell through before even seeing the light, due to lack of interest.

Since his heart attack however, Smith stated that whilst he thought he was going to die, he had only one regret, which was that he didn’t get to make the sequel to 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, so he has been focused on making that and this month all of that hard work and focus will pay off when Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is released.

The Clerks are back and hopefully this will continue, or roundoff the View Askewniverse. With Jeff Anderson returning, hopefully this film will see the return of other fan favourites to continue the story of Clerks and Clerks 2. Smith has confirmed that the original script is not being used for this new revival, but instead a new script is being written to create a whole new film.

In the last film, we were left with an ending that saw Dante and Randall buy the Quickstop themselves, along with Dante’s new fiancé Becky who just so happened to be pregnant with Dante’s child after a love affair, so hopefully Rosario Dawson will return to reprise her role as Becky, especially since she seems to have been happy enough to join the Reboot film as seen in the trailer. This film could also see the return Elias, portrayed by the brilliantly funny Trevor Fehrman, who doesn’t seem to have been in a film since Clerks 2 back in 2006. At the end of the film, Dante and Randall hire Elias at the Quickstop and RST Video store, so one can only hope he returns.
